Luscious crunchy buttery garlicky crispy baked french fries or potato chips tossed with salt, pepper and parsley. So sinful and yummy.
Are you calling the french fry police, now that I baked my french fries (thin cut potato chips) instead of deep frying them? You guys, these garlic butter french fries are life changing. Also my number one vegetarian side dish with potatoes. No exaggeration, these potato chips are perfect to serve as chip-n-dip or a quick no fuss appetiser or snack recipe. so so yummy!
Who does not love a good french fry? Also in general, who does not love a good potato recipe? I thought I set the mark very high, when I posted this recipe for crispy honey chilli potatoes, but this easy recipe for baked thin cut potato fries loaded in parsley garlic butter, and baked to perfection until crispy and crunchy (yet soft from the inside) texture has set the bar very very high.
Tips on how to make perfect french fries (potato chips)?
- my number one tip would be to keep the skin on. Something I learned when I created the recipe for oven baked parmesan potato wedges - totally skipped peeling the potatoes and that always gives the best texture to your french fries no matter if you bake them or fry them or air fry them.
- my second tip would to cut the potatoes thin - not too thin (as they shrink when you bake them) - this will give you the crunchy texture from the outside, yet very soft and chewy from the inside.
How to make baked garlic butter french fries (potato chips)?
These golden brown crunchy baked french fries tossed in magic garlic butter are easier to make than you think. Lets get started.
- start by washing, scrubbing and cutting your potatoes into really thin sticks
- prepare the garlic butter by mixing melted (salted butter), crushed/grated garlic, parsley, salt and pepper. I used dried parsley for this recipe which worked perfectly fine.
- add this to your potatoes. mix well and transfer to a baking sheet. bake at 200 degree celsius for 45 minutes (flipping after 30, then further 15 minutes cook time) until you get golden brown and crunchy potato chips.
What to serve these baked garlic butter fries (chips) with?
- ketchup
- mayo
- mix sriracha and mayo (yum!)
- french onion yogurt dip with caramelized onions
- lemon and garlic yogurt dip
- roasted beetroot hummus
- serve with beetroot quinoa burgers
- serve over arugula chickpea salad
Variations/ possible additions?
- can these garlic butter fries be air fried? YES. This recipe is tried and tested in an air fryer. Set the temperature to 200 degrees and cook for 18-20 minutes in the air fryer and your air fried french fries (potato chips) are ready.
- possible additions to the garlic butter? add oregano, chilli flakes or Italian seasoning. so so good.
- can sweet potato be used instead? YES. Check out my recipe for baked sweet potato fries.
