This is me, never not trying an appetiser recipe for all you party people 😀 Here we go, here it is – that one recipe I had been wanting to excel at – the copy cat version of the sesame toasts you ate at all the 90’s weddings. Yes, that very sesame toast (Indian style!) you needed extra tissues to wipe of the excess oil and yes, that very sesame toast that CANNOT be baked/ air-fryed, rather only deep fried.
Made with the simple pantry ingredients including bread, white sesame seeds, potatoes & basic spices: salt, pepper, chilli powder and garlic giving you really crunchy and crispy vegetarian sesame toasts (also called golden coins if you cut them in circles instead of triangles) that is an excellent option for veg Chinese or Indo-Chinee starter or snack recipe.
How to make vegetarian sesame toasts at home?
To make these crispy sesame toasts, you need:
- garlic + chopped veggies (optional)
- salt, pepper, chilli powder
- rice flour
- sesame seeds

In a large plate add grated boiled potatoes, chilli powder, salt, pepper, garlic
Mix together to form a neat dough
Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts
Spread evenly on bread slices
Cut small triangles
In a bowl, mix together rice flour + water
Dip individual triangles into the rice flour mixture and place it on the sesame seeds so that one side is covered completely with the white sesame seeds
Deep fry until golden brown and serve with chilli sauce.

Crunchy golden fried vegetarian sesame toast with delicious and easy potato filling. Perfect appetiser to please your guests, making this childhood favourite recipe is easier than you think.
- 200 grams Potatoes (boiled & mashed/ grated)
- 1/2 tbsp Garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp Chilli Powder
- 1/2 cup Sesame Seeds (white)
- 1/2 cup Rice Flour
- 1 cup Water
- Oil (for deep frying)
- 4 slices White Bread
In a large plate, mix together grated boiled potatoes, chilli powder, salt, pepper and garlic.
Divide the mixture in 4 parts.
Heat oil in a pan at this point.
Spread the divided mixture on bread slices. Cut each slice into 4 triangles.
Mix together rice flour and water and add some salt to this mixture.
Place sesame seeds on a separate plate.
Dip each triangle in rice flour mixture and immediately lay it on the sesame seeds so that one side is completely covered with sesame seeds.
Transfer this to hot oil and deep fry until golden brown.
Serve hot with chilli sauce.
