Quick and easy homemade sweet chili (chilli) and garlic oil that serves as the perfect condiment in your everyday kitchen to enjoy with & over Asian food (specially appetisers).
I am happy to report that you are only five ingredients and 5 minutes away from making this delicious spicy condiment at your home! Any visit to any Asian inspired restaurant is incomplete for me until I add generous amounts of sweet chili oil over my noodles or my dumplings.
Now this is certainly not the most authentic chili oil - I did not add any chinese five spice and I used regular chili flakes instead of sichuan pepper, BUT the right quantities of sweet and spicy made this really delicious and definitely something I love to double up and store in my pantry.
Its certainly great to enjoy with crispy wontons, crispy spring rolls or these vegan gyozas or these mushroom gyozas. Stay tuned for really meaty meatless (vegan) chili oil dumplings coming on the blog super soon. Here's a sneak peak...
I also enjoy this homemade sweet chili oil over some rice noodles with some "grilled" or pan fried bok choy - so so yum!
Ok, back to chili oil... let make it! What do you need? Chili flakes, chopped garlic, sesame seeds, brown sugar and vegetable oil. Now that one simple step? Simply add everything to a bowl (except for oil) - heat the oil until its very hot and pout i over the garlic, sugar, sesame seeds, chili flakes mixture. Mix well and its ready!
What to use sweet chili oil for?
- crispy fried spring rolls
- cream cheese wontons
- mix veggie gyozas (pan fried dumplings)
- mushroom gyozas (pan fried dumplings)
- mix vegetable nuggets
